Pink?!

Not exactly what comes to mind when you think "classic commercial van." And yet.

Flamingo is a 1980 Mini Van, originally delivered new by Van Vliet in Rotterdam, back when she was a sensible white workhorse hauling goods across the local markets. In June 91', Marius took her under his wing, gave her this soft pink jacket, and then she disappeared into silence for many years… It wasn't until recently that she came back properly, with a serious round of upgrades to bring her up to the road again.

But this ain't no standard Mini Van anymore. Under the bonnet we find a 998cc Stage 1 setup with electronic ignition, a performance coil, low resistance leads, and a cylinder head revised for unleaded fuel. The cooling system has been fully renewed with an EVO pump, new hoses, heater matrix and an external radiator. She's ever cool. Up front she stops on 10" disc brake assemblies with new ball joints and brake lines, wider drums at the rear, and GAZ adjustable shock absorbers at all four corners. She drives, believe it or not, astonishingly well.

On the interior we find black leather seats, Newton Commercial brown leather door cards, a MOMO wooden steering wheel, and a three-clock oval dash binnacle with oil pressure and temperature gauges. The floor is fully sound-deadened, carpet in fresh dark brown, and the rear carries a handmade wooden load floor with a usable space of 1.64 m² (passenger seat included ;). A Marshall Bluetooth speaker sits on the dashboard and charges itself automatically, with a separate phone charging port alongside it.

She still wears her first registration papers on the windscreen. Proud of where she came from, and very much ready for where she's going next.
