Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GTC

In September 2017, this Alfa Romeo stood among Europe's finest classics on the lawn of Hampton Court Palace during the Concours of Elegance, as entry number 35 in the company of the country's most beautiful private collections. No fluke, for twenty years earlier this GTC had already won a prize at the Concours Automobiles Classiques et Louis Vuitton at the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris, in the category "Grandes Classiques des Années 20 & 30".

This 6C 1750 Gran Turismo Compressore is powered by a 1752cc inline six-cylinder engine, supercharged and producing 80 hp at 4400 rpm, with a compression ratio of just 5. 0:1, a necessity given the forced induction. Factory specifications state a top speed of approximately 90 mph, or about 145 km/ h, and a dry weight of 1360 kilograms. The chassis, suspension, steering, brakes, and gearbox are virtually identical to those of the larger, eight-cylinder 8C, and the beautiful lines of the engine also betray that kinship. The bodywork is the work of Carrozzeria Touring, specializing in precisely this type of drophead body; the upright radiator gives the GTC Coupé Royal a stately appearance that almost obscures the true performance of the two-valve, twin-cam engine. Inside, a refined four-seater interior awaits, with polished woodwork and cream-colored leather—a world of difference from the racing 6C 1750s that won the Mille Miglia, the Ulster TT, and the Brooklands Double Twelve in their day.

The car is officially recognized by the Registro Storico of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and also holds "eligible" status with the Registro 1000 Miglia, two certifications that not every example receives and which underscore the authenticity of the chassis and engine; a FIVA identity card further confirms this prestige internationally. For a long time, it bore the British license plate KXO 590 and, after years in Italian ownership, was thoroughly restored. The bodywork was handled by Carrozzeria Nova Rinascente of Dino Cognolato, while the engine overhaul was carried out by Officina Il Restauro of Gianni Torelli, complete with a new block, pistons, valves, bearings, and connecting rods, all documented by invoices.

The result of that restoration is still clearly visible today: the paintwork and bodywork are in excellent condition, and the interior, with its wooden dashboard and upholstery, also looks particularly fine. From England, the car later crossed to the United States before finding its way back to Europe. In the Netherlands, it underwent an extensive inspection and preparation for the RDW inspection in early 2021, including a replacement alternator, corrected steering play, a reconditioned fuel system and ignition, repaired electrical contacts, and adjusted brakes. Since then, the car has been registered in the Netherlands and is fully roadworthy there. The car comes with an extensive documentation file: the original parts book, historic Alfa Romeo factory brochures in French and English, magazine articles about this specific chassis, restoration invoices, the 2017 Concours of Elegance booklet, the Registro Storico and 1000 Miglia plaques, the FIVA card, and various spare parts, including a Memini carburetor conversion kit and an original distributor with ignition coil.

This is a 6C 1750 GTC with an exceptionally well-documented international history, passing from Italian collectors to British and American hands, with concours successes on two continents and official Registro Storico certification, FIVA identity, and Mille Miglia eligibility crowning a car that is, in the words of a previous owner, "a brilliant all-round road car." Built in the early 1930s, this GTC falls well within the period used by the modern Mille Miglia for admission, and with its already confirmed "eligible" status from the Registro 1000 Miglia, this car is immediately ready for this legendary regularity rally.
