Beschrijving

Motors Corner is delighted to present this 1966 Morgan Plus 4 Competition, chassis 6255, ordered new for Philippe Cousteau, son of Commander Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and delivered to Paris on 23 May 1966. The Plus 4 Competition is the most exclusive variant in the range, with only forty-two examples ordered between 1965 and 1967, of which eleven are believed to still exist today. It stands apart with its low-line bodywork, featuring a more taut and sportier design, positioning itself halfway between the standard Plus 4 and a racing car.

This example presents itself in its factory Kingfisher Blue and black leather specification, and it is full matching numbers. It is accompanied by a comprehensive documentary file: Chassis Record from Morgan Motors Company, confirmation of factory specification, correspondence from Morgan France and period photographs. French collector registration document.

Mechanics:

The car retains its original Triumph TR4A engine, with its original SU carburettors and Derrington tubular exhaust. It features Armstrong Selectaride dampers, disc brakes and the 7HA rear axle specific to the Competition.

In July 2025, the car underwent a complete mechanical overhaul at LDO Racing, for a total amount of approximately €14, 600. The work includes notably an engine oil change with oil filter replacement, gearbox and axle oil changes, replacement of the fuel pump and fuel filter, fitting of bespoke intake trumpets, replacement of the rocker cover gasket, auxiliary belt and starter motor, complete ignition overhaul (Lucas Sport coil, distributor cap, contact points, condenser, wiring harnesses and spark plugs), removal and refitting of the carburettor with repair kit, engine tuning and carburettor and ignition adjustment, replacement of the brake master cylinder with bleeding and overhaul of the brake lines, installation of the gear lever and repair of the throttle linkage. Five new Dunlop Racing 500L15 CR65 tyres were fitted.

In October 2025, a second intervention was carried out through the Morgan network, for an amount of approximately €5, 700, including complete overhaul of the steering box with replacement of internal components, drop arm and worm gear, replacement of the steering rods followed by geometry adjustment, overhaul of the rear suspension harness, re-sealing of the engine sump, re-sealing of the rear axle with differential oil change, and battery replacement. The car thus totals over €20, 000 of work in recent months and is ready to take to the road.

Interior:

The cabin is trimmed in black leather, featuring the original bucket seats specific to the Competition, with the characteristic varnished wooden dashboard and its complete original Smiths instrumentation. The three-spoke wooden steering wheel, the odometer in kilometres and the electrical equipment conform to the Competition specification. The car also features the original heating.

A bespoke Mohair canvas tonneau cover. It is in good condition, as is the hood frame, supplied with the car.

Exterior:

Presented in its original Kingfisher Blue colour, the low-line bodywork is in fine condition, with deep and lustrous paintwork. It features European-specification headlights, front and rear bumpers, and a spare wheel mounted on the rear boot.

The car is supplied with its accessories: the chromed rear luggage rack, hood frame, tonneau cover and side screens.
