Beschrijving

L'Atelier des 1000 is delighted to offer for sale this 1962 Triumph TR4, finished in elegant British racing green, complemented by black leather trim with white piping.

Introduced in 1961, the TR4 succeeds the TR3 whilst retaining the fundamentals that made the marque's reputation: four-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, separate chassis and particularly direct driving pleasure.

Designed by Michelotti, its bodywork marks a significant evolution compared to the TR3 with tighter lines and a more modern presentation.

The TR4 nonetheless retains the spirit of Triumph's sports cars of the era. Its 2. 1-litre four-cylinder engine, manual gearbox and modest weight allow it to deliver impressive performance whilst maintaining simple and accessible mechanics.

With the TR4, Triumph also considerably enhances on-board comfort. The car is more comfortable and more versatile than its predecessor, whilst retaining that low driving position and direct connection with the mechanics that define the charm of British roadsters.

Our example was imported from the USA in 1996 and underwent a complete restoration, with a full strip-down upon arrival in France, a process that took four years.

An extensive file of invoices and photographs documents its history in the hands of its first and current French owner.

The engine starts easily, without noise or smoke. It delivers good rev-building and sound behaviour.

It has benefited from a complete overhaul, including replacement of pistons and connecting rods. The cylinder head was not overlooked: the valves and guides were replaced and it was converted to unleaded.

A stainless steel exhaust system was fitted, enhancing the engine's sonority, particularly enjoyable with the roof down.

The original gearbox has been replaced with an overdrive model; it engages and locks its ratios perfectly, the overdrive is functional, whilst the clutch performs its role flawlessly.

The chassis retains all the dynamism that built the TR4's reputation. Its direct steering and modest weight provide lively and particularly communicative handling.

The braking functions correctly and the suspension offers sound behaviour.

The wire wheels are in perfect condition and fitted with Vredestein Sport Classic tyres.

The bodywork, refurbished during the restoration in the early 2000s, presents well.

The paint offers a fine, uniform lustre.

All chrome elements are perfectly gleaming.

The black interior with white piping offers a refined presentation in keeping with the model's original spirit.

The soft top presents well and is watertight.

The original Bakelite steering wheel is in fine condition.

The trim is comfortable and the vinyl is perfectly preserved.

The original dashboard has been replaced with a wooden item, matched with a gear knob that adds an elegant touch to the cabin.

The instrumentation is perfectly functional and the various controls retain the authentic ambiance that defines the charm of British roadsters from the 1960s.
