Scarcely more than 2, 500 examples of this model were built in coupé form. With styling penned by Paul Bracq amongst others, the 300SE was Mercedes' flagship of the era. It was indeed the predecessor to today's S-Class.

A design characterised by length and elegance, notably featuring frameless doors that render the cabin almost panoramic. Leather throughout, chrome trim, a Bakelite steering wheel... what luxury! And above all, some rather significant options for the period: the sunroof, the automatic gearbox with steering wheel controls, front and rear armrests and air suspension to name but a few.

Engine-wise, its M189 six-cylinder develops 160bhp of pure pleasure for cruising our roads without fear of sluggish acceleration. Maximum power is rated at 175 km/ h. One appreciates the fuel injection technology for the era. As for ride comfort, the air suspension is most agreeable, particularly at the rear. A palace on wheels! A concept Mercedes has never abandoned with the S-Class.

This particular car has undergone a complete restoration.

The bodywork was stripped and entirely refinished in a body-off restoration. The running gear was removed, stripped and repainted.

The interior and trim likewise, with a choice of high-quality leather as per original specification. The woodwork is as new and all instrumentation is fully functional.

The mechanics were also completely overhauled some ten years ago. The air suspension was renewed at that time.

An inspection confirmed the excellent condition of the floor pan, underframe and sills. It has been treated with a light stone-chip protection.

Currently in the hands of a collector and enthusiast of authentic motorcars, it is maintained regularly at a specialist workshop.

Beyond the usual services and oil changes, components such as the mechanical suspension and Bosch fuel injection are closely monitored and certain items have been revised post-restoration to align as closely as possible with the original specification. It is today ready to take to the road with a recent service history.

Handling is rather straightforward thanks to the automatic gearbox and power steering. The sunroof adds genuine appeal to the cabin. And most importantly, it genuinely accommodates two proper rear seats. A versatile, powerful and luxurious motorcar that will certainly not go unnoticed.
