Electric power steering with smaller steering wheel

This Facel Vega Excellence features matching serial numbers (its engine is therefore original) and was first registered in France on 15 September 1960 with export plates. These plates were necessary because the Canadian buyer had personally collected the car from the Paris factory and used it for a holiday in France. Only upon his return did he ship it to Canada and register it there. The car had been ordered in Tudor grey with a brown leather interior and a Torqueflite automatic gearbox. In the 1980s, Atelier Coteaux repatriated the Facel to France and sold it to a Dutch collector. On 7 May 1992, it was sold in Belgium and integrated into a private collection. In 2019, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, a Dane acquired it and wished to have it restored immediately. This vehicle, well preserved despite marked patina, presented an excellent state of preservation. Due to the pandemic, restoration could not begin until 2022 and was only completed in May 2025. In the meantime, the owner's circumstances in Denmark having changed, he decided to put it up for sale.

During its restoration, the car was completely dismantled, including the bodywork separated from the chassis. Every component was dismantled, cleaned, refurbished, repainted and reassembled with new parts. The new paint was applied in the original shade and the leather colour was reproduced as closely as possible. The engine was also dismantled and completely overhauled. The steering was fitted with electric power assistance, with the level adjustable via a dial. Thanks to the far superior smoothness of this electric power steering compared to modern hydraulic power steering, the large original steering wheel, which limited freedom of movement, was able to be replaced. A smaller steering wheel, conforming to the original model, was custom-made and installed specifically for this car. This attention to detail is evident throughout the restoration, and the result is simply breathtaking. Handling, steering, braking: everything inspires confidence, and you will take immense pleasure in driving this magnificent example. Despite the elaborate construction of the door, you hear practically no squeaking, clicking or creaking, even on the most damaged cobblestones.
