1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 2+2

Jaguar E type series 2 coupe 4. 2 LHD supplied new to Jaguar Cars New York, returned to the UK in August of 2021 . Finished in Sable with Beige leather interior and Chrome wire wheels with correct eared spinners.

This was a very good car but not good enough for the man who bought it, who is not only an engineer but a man who’s attention to detail is second to none… The car was entrusted to Blackline Classics , well know E type specialists , where along with the owner a long list of upgrades and improvements were carried out to produce the exceptional car that is for sale today. The expenditure on top of the purchase price came to circa £36000-00 . The car has covered less than 3000 miles since all the work was carried out.

I will list the works below, there is a detailed spread sheet of everything that was done as well as a computer stick with a pictorial record.

Removed engine and gearbox, steering , engine frames, inlet and exhaust systems and complete rear axle.

Removed USA spec parts, indicator repeaters , air conditioning, Stromberg carbs and manifold.

New windscreen and rubber fitted

Closed indicator repeaters holes in body and bonnet using steel to complete.

Replaced both footwells mostly due to Jacking damage—Minimal corrosion.

Resprayed bonnet and lower rear body after indicator work

Stripped and repainted bulkhead as paint was cracking

Stripped engine frames and condemned them due to corrosion from inside

Replaced with new 631 frames.

Engine and gearbox seemed good so only clutch system was renewed.

Sourced rebuilt correct triple SU Carburettors / linkages on correct manifold.

New stainless exhaust manifolds.

New stainless exhaust system.

Rear axle completely rebuilt with all new parts . Frame and parts painted / plated as appropriate. Rear axle RATIO CORRECTED to UK standard using all new parts.

Brake systems stripped , replaced and rebuilt using all new parts. New discs and pads.

Front suspension and steering completely rebuilt with all new wear parts. Wishbones and other parts re-plated or re-painted as required.

GAZ dampers all round.

New larger alloy radiator with twin cowled fans on automatic thermostat.

All new Brake and Fuel lines.

New tyres

This is a lovely well sorted ready to use E type that retains its original interior and as such has a feels and smells just right. The panel gaps are exceptional and the doors shut correctly with a light push.
