Beschrijving
Of all the sports cars sold in America in the 1960s, the Ford Mustang was perhaps the most famous. Ford designer John Najjar was an avid admirer of the Mustang bombers used during World War II and decided to name his latest creation after them. The first generation of the Mustang was built between 1964 and 1973; the early models from the 1960s, in particular, are highly prized by collectors. What made the Mustang popular were its sporty looks and the relatively low price of $2, 368. This allowed many Americans to afford a sports car, giving sales figures a tremendous boost. Various versions were available: a convertible, a coupé, and a sporty fastback. But naturally, for some customers, it could never be sporty enough. And so, Carroll Shelby's help was enlisted. He applied his experience to the Mustang: less weight and more power was his main credo. Heavy parts of the car were replaced with lighter fiberglass components. The rear seats were removed, and a larger engine was installed, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. The focus was on a sporty appearance and driving behavior, rather than on numerous options or luxury features.
The Ford Mustang we are pleased to offer is a 1965 Fastback, making it a very early model. The last owner kept the car for 20 years and transformed it into a 'GT350'. The car has been completely overhauled, not only visually but especially technically. Under the hood lies the famous 'K-code' 289 V8 with nearly 300 hp. The ignition features dual contact points, and the valve covers are from an original GT350 race car. The engine block is coupled to a four-speed Toploader transmission. The fuel tank and filler cap are exactly as they should be in the GT, and even the tachometer and radio cover are original Shelby parts. Included with the car is a folder containing photos of the restoration, showing that the original floor panels are still in place. The interior is spotless and original; the rear seats are covered by a tarpaulin, just like in the original GT.
This car has a Dutch registration.
This Mustang is a true muscle car and deserves to be seen and, above all, heard. We invite you to come and meet it!
