Land Rover 1950 series 1

This iconic and fun vehicle starts on the button, drives well and is used regularly on the farm and for outings.

Restored about 8 years ago to a high and period correct standard this early example of the legend that became Landrover still retains its original 1600 engine and gearbox, bulkhead and 1950 dated axles that still have the early knuckle drive in the front axle.

The extensive restoration included a replacement galvanised chassis from Richard’s Engineering, a rebuilt engine including cylinders rebored, crank reground and block skimmed by engine specialist Stanhope, replacement prop shafts, complete brake overhaul including new pipes and refurbished master cylinder, new wiring loom, carburettor refurbished, new seats and cover from Exmoor Trim. Pretty much every component, with the exception of the gearbox has been stripped down and refurbished.

And a few additions to make the landrover more usable such as a Fairy Overdrive, the dynamo converted to an alternator that looks original, seat belts and turning indicators (that were an optional extra when this vehicle was built).

This Land Rover is ready for new adventures with a new owner.

Bought as a rusty and sadly abandoned Land Rover that I wanted to restore for my own pleasure and use in my farm but my life has changed and its time to find a new owner.

What makes it unique is how people react with real affection for this early icon that was so basic and designed for farm work but went on to become the opulent and expensive Range Rover. And if you take it to a car meet with supercars and expensive classics people will come and look at the old Land Rover.

It’s just very cool and very British
