Volkswagen Beetle Split Window from 1952, completely restored and resprayed in the original colour. Offered for sale by SC Classic at the price of €47, 000.

The restoration covered the bodywork, paintwork, interior and engine. The car is currently fitted with a 1, 200 cc engine, which has been replaced and is appropriate: it is not the original engine for this example. The installed gearbox is a manual 4-speed, synchronised unit. The car is in running order.

THE HISTORY OF THE SPLIT WINDOW BEETLE

The 1952 Beetle belongs to the first phase of Volkswagen's post-war history: Type 1 production resumed at Wolfsburg in December 1945, whilst exports began in 1947. The split rear window in two halves characterises the examples today known as Split Window or Brezel. In 1953 it gave way to the oval rear window: an example from 1952 therefore represents the final phase of this distinctive silhouette.
