Beschrijving

When Carrozzeria Touring introduced a new design on the 6C 2500 chassis at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este in 1949 and won the top prize, one of the most coveted body styles of the post-war period immediately became associated with its name. This Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sports Sperimentale Series IV Cabriolet, featuring exclusive Touring coachwork, is a rare version of that design on the longest wheelbase available for the model. Only five examples with this long wheelbase were built, of which reportedly only two or three have survived.

According to correspondence from 1989, included in the file, from Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, then director of Touring Superleggera, this car—described as the Experimental Sport Series Type IV with three carburetors on the long chassis—was completed on April 15, 1952. The car left the factory in its original livery, grey with a blue leather interior and matching soft top, and retains this factory-correct combination to this day. The Certificato di Origine from Alfa Romeo Classiche is also included in the file and confirms the car's identity.

Shortly after completion, the car was purchased new by James Omar Radford of Abilene, Texas, a millionaire who made his fortune through a thriving wholesale business and real-estate interests and who spent most of his time in Hollywood as a film producer. A few years later, this remarkable convertible came into the hands of the renowned American architect William Kesling. From 1972, LH “Bud” Von Nordheim of National City, California, was the owner; legend has it that he meticulously maintained the car until August 1979, after which it remained on his property in a partially restored state for years. In 1987, the car was rescued by Alfa Romeo enthusiast David Skora of Escondido, California. Photos in the file show that the car had been repainted several times since 1952, but that much of the original interior had been preserved beneath a light-colored cover. Borrani wire wheels had also been fitted at the time and have been retained by subsequent owners ever since.

Bruce Robertson of Lake Forest, Illinois, found this 6C 2500 Convertible in 1997 amid a restoration initiated by Skora. Robertson had the car returned to its factory-correct color scheme and the restoration completed to the highest standard by Eric Roseneau. As soon as the car left Roseneau's workshop in 2003, it won the awards for Best Alfa Romeo and Best of Show at the Detroit Concorso d'Italia. Robertson subsequently exhibited the car at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance and various events around Chicago before selling it to Oscar Davis in 2008.

With its sublime lines designed by Touring, this Alfa Romeo is one of the most desirable variants of the 6C 2500 and is accompanied by personal correspondence from none other than Signor Anderloni himself. As a 1952 car, it falls within the model years eligible for participation in the Mille Miglia storica, making it Mille Miglia compliant. The car comes with an extensive historical dossier and a US title certificate; all European taxes have been paid, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of its appearance at the most prestigious concours events or its participation in the Mille Miglia.
