The Evoluzione's engine was the same 16-valve, 2-liter turbocharged unit found in the previous Integrale, but with some upgrades. Thanks to a new ECU, engine output increased to 210 hp at 5750 rpm, which compensated for the slight increase in weight and drag. Peak torque remained unchanged at 220 lb-ft, but was now reached at 3500 rpm. To celebrate its victory in the 1991 World Rally Championship, Lancia produced 400 special edition Integrals known as the '5' cars. The mechanics of the 5 remained unchanged but they were given custom bodywork, white wheels, black hood grilles, black spoiler and Martini-Racing colors on the sides. Although the Integrale Evoluzione was less powerful and less aerodynamic than the Celica GT4 and Imprezza WRX, it managed to take home a sixth WRC title and received praise from motoring journalists around the world.
