The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car Edition represents one of the most recognizable special editions in Corvette history. Collector Highlights

• One of 6,502 Pace Car Editions produced

• Matching-numbers L82 350ci High Performance V8

• Limited Black/Silver Pace Car paint scheme

• Glass removable T-top roof panels

• Recent mechanical servicing completed

Finished in the iconic two-tone Pace Car Black and Silver paint scheme over a Silver interior, this Corvette captures the bold late-1970s styling that defined the era. The distinctive graphics package and white-letter tires were originally included in the car for dealer installation, allowing owners the option of applying them or keeping the car in its sleek two-tone form.

Under the hood sits the desirable matching-numbers L82 350 cubic inch V8, the high-performance engine option for 1978. Producing strong power and paired with an automatic transmission, the L82-equipped cars delivered noticeably stronger performance than the base Corvette models and remain highly sought after today.

The 1978 model year also introduced the fastback rear window design, giving the Corvette a sleek new profile while adding additional cargo space behind the seats. Combined with removable glass T-top roof panels, the design offered the best of both coupe and open-air driving experiences.

This example comes well equipped with power windows, power locks, air conditioning, AM/FM 8-Track radio, leather seats, and four-wheel power disc brakes, providing the comfort and drivability expected from a late C3 Corvette. Recent maintenance includes a rebuilt carburetor, replaced radiator, new transmission cooler lines, oil pan gasket replacement, and rear differential service, helping ensure reliable operation.

With only 6,502 Pace Car produced, the 1978 Pace Car Corvette remains one of the most recognized special editions in Corvette history and a cornerstone collectible for C3 enthusiasts.
