Fiat 500 | 1971

Highlights:

– 500 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine, petrol, 4-speed manual transmission

– Folding fabric sunroof

– Sports seats and sports steering wheel fitted

– Replaced original parts included with the sale

The seller offers for sale this 1971 Fiat 500, powered by a 500 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It is finished in ivory white with chrome trim and features the characteristic folding fabric sunroof that turns the little Fiat into an open-air car on sunny days. Inside, the car has been personalised with a pair of sports seats in checked fabric and a black sports steering wheel, while the black dashboard is accented by a tan padded trim. The seller has added a number of accessories over the years, and the original parts that were replaced have been kept and will be supplied with the car, so a future owner can return it to original specification if desired.

Few cars have captured hearts the way the Fiat 500 has. Launched in 1957 as the Nuova 500 and designed by Dante Giacosa, it put post-war Italy on wheels and became the symbol of the country’s economic miracle. Around four million were built before production ended in 1975, and the Cinquecento remains one of the most recognisable and best-loved cars ever made.

The concept was brilliantly simple: a compact air-cooled two-cylinder engine mounted in the rear, four seats in a body only three metres long and a folding fabric roof that kept costs down while adding a sense of fun. On the road the 500 is cheerful and charming, perfect for city streets and winding country lanes alike, and it attracts smiles wherever it goes. With its strong club scene and good parts availability, it is an easy and rewarding classic to own, and this personalised example, complete with its original parts, offers a lot of character.
