Ford Transit | 1969

Highlights:

– 1.7-litre V4 engine, petrol, manual transmission

– Period camper conversion with kitchen unit and dinette

– Raised roof with extra headroom

– Two-tone turquoise and cream paintwork

– Previous owner used it to travel through several countries

The private seller offers for sale this 1969 Ford Transit, powered by a 1.7-litre V4 engine, paired with a manual transmission. This first-generation Transit has been converted into a charming camper and is finished in a cheerful two-tone scheme of turquoise and cream, with a raised roof that adds valuable headroom to the living area. The previous owner was a reporter who travelled through several countries with the van, giving it a story that suits its adventurous character perfectly.

Inside, the living area is fitted out in warm wood-effect cabinetry, with a kitchen unit including a hob and sink, cupboards with gas bottle storage, a wardrobe and a dinette with two facing bench seats around a central table. Curtains on the side windows complete the cosy camper atmosphere, while the cab offers comfortable seating behind the large steering wheel and the classic Transit dashboard. The engine bay and cab doors can be seen in detail in the accompanying photographs.

The Ford Transit was launched in 1965 and quickly became one of the most successful commercial vehicles ever built in Europe. Designed to be robust, spacious and easy to drive, it was used by tradespeople, emergency services and families alike, and its practicality made it a natural base for camper conversions. The first-generation Transit, with its distinctive flat front and wide grille, is now an increasingly rare sight, as most examples were worked hard and eventually replaced.

Its compact V4 engine, simple mechanicals and generous interior space make an early Transit camper an easy classic to live with. This example offers the chance to own a genuine piece of European motoring history that can still be used as intended, for relaxed trips, festivals and weekends away. A characterful and practical classic camper with a story to tell.
