Seat 850 | 1966

Highlights:

– 850 cc four-cylinder engine, petrol, 4-speed manual transmission

– Unrestored and largely original

– White paintwork with red interior

– Recent maintenance and tune-up carried out

The seller offers for sale this 1966 SEAT 850, powered by an 850 cc four-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It is a two-door saloon finished in white with chrome bumpers, overriders and brightwork, contrasting with a red interior that includes red upholstered front seats and rear bench and red door panels. The car has not been restored; it has been kept in use throughout its sixty years and remains largely in its original state, which makes it a charming and authentic survivor.

Recent maintenance includes a new battery, a new fuel filter, a new starter motor and a tune-up, and the tyres are nearly new. The seller has recently used the car on drives of around 50 km. The paintwork has a good shine and the chrome is in good condition, while the interior has been well looked after.

SEAT was founded in 1950 and built Fiat designs under licence at its Zona Franca factory in Barcelona, playing a central role in bringing affordable motoring to Spanish families. The 850 arrived in 1966, based on the Fiat 850 introduced two years earlier, and it followed the enormous success of the SEAT 600. SEAT later developed its own four-door version of the 850, a body style unique to the Spanish brand, but the original two-door saloon seen here is the model that started it all. 1966 was the very first year of SEAT 850 production.

The design follows the classic rear-engined layout of the era, with the compact four-cylinder engine mounted behind the rear axle and a neat, upright body offering surprising space for four. On the road the 850 is lively and easy to drive, with light controls that make it a pleasure in town and on country roads. With its honest, unrestored character, this first-year SEAT 850 is an appealing entry into the classic car world and a genuine piece of Spanish motoring history.
