1937 MG VA

1937 MG VA Saloon.

I acquired this car in May 2016.

I later found out that it was owned from 1960 to 2000 by Martin Brent, the general secretary of the MG Car Club. It was/ is a well known vehicle. The plaques on the sun visors are from his time of ownership.

When I got it the car was roadworthy (just) but needed work. Today it is very roadworthy but whether a new owner thinks it needs further work is their choice. I like the scrappy paintwork and worn leather etc and have kept it in 'oily rag' condition.

The previous owner had fitted new wheels and tyres and also a pair of new carburetors. I carried out a lot of work to replace some framing timbers and had a new rear section made for the sliding sunroof as this had rusted out. The headlining was replaced. I had the dynamo overhauled. I refettled the rear seat springs and fitted some carpeting. The leather was regularly treated with feed.

A few years ago I needed to replace the worn front shock absorbers and I decided to carry out the recognised modification of fitting telescopic shock absorbers. These work extremely well but I have since had the original shocks overhauled and they can go with the car. I have removed the front Jackall pistons as they are a nuisance over speed humps, but they will also go with the car. I also have the original rubber insert for the bootlid, that carried the tool kit.

In short, the car is highly useable. N. B. The fish mascot is not included in the sale.
