FORD ESCORT RS COSWORTH 4X4 227HP 1994 - **National Origin** Designed according to the homologation specifications of Group A for the World Rally Championship, where it was driven by Miki Biasion and Francois Delecour. More precisely, at the end of Group B in 1986. Manufacturers focused their attention on Group A, and Ford was no exception. However, the Sierra (used in the rear-wheel drive Cosworth and all-wheel drive XR4x4 versions) proved to be inferior to the competition. The Sierra Cosworth lacked traction and agility, the XR4x4 lacked power. Both were significantly behind the Delta Integrale, which was more powerful, lighter, and much more agile. Ford tried to address these shortcomings with the appearance of the Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4 in 1990, but being derived from a family sedan, it could never compete with the light and compact Lancia. The solution was clear: the Ford Escort. Ford was preparing to launch the fifth-generation Escort and decided to simultaneously create its new weapon for the World Rally Championship. The design of the Escort RS Cosworth is undoubtedly another reason that makes it an icon. Stephen Harper and Frank Stephenson created a silhouette so recognizable for its muscular proportions, yet imbued with an elegance completely atypical for a car of this type. The aggressive air vents on the hood and behind the front wheels were essential for dissipating the heat generated in the engine compartment during competition. The famous rear "whale tail" and the enormous adjustable front spoiler were meticulously designed to make the RS Cosworth the first production car capable of generating downforce on both axles. The road version of the "RS Cosworth" was available in the Escort range between 1992 and 1996 in very limited numbers, which, together with its sporting successes, makes the Escort RS Cosworth an "iconic" and highly desirable sports car. As for equipment, it has air conditioning, electric sunroof, electric windows, and electric mirrors.* This ad was published automatically; all data needs confirmation with the seller.
