. Fully restored.

A wonderfully evocative example of one of Ford’s most iconic pre-war automobiles, this 1937 Ford V8 Woodie Estate combines the unmistakable styling of Ford’s late-1930s range with the performance and character of its legendary flathead V8.

Built in Canada and first registered in the United Kingdom in 1937, this particularly interesting Woodie has enjoyed a long and distinguished life before being comprehensively restored by its current owner. The restoration was commenced in 2006 and completed in 2011, representing some five years of painstaking work and an investment of approximately £75, 000.

The restoration was undertaken with considerable attention to both authenticity and mechanical quality. The car was stripped and subjected to a bare metal respray, while the extensive timber bodywork was carefully restored. The mechanical overhaul included the engine, gearbox and running gear, with the braking system, electrical system and other mechanical components also comprehensively renewed or rebuilt.

The beautifully presented interior was restored with a new leather trim, complemented by fully refurbished brightwork and re-chromed exterior fittings, resulting in a car that presents with an exceptional level of detail throughout.

At its heart is Ford’s celebrated flathead V8, one of the defining engines of the American automotive story. Its distinctive character and effortless torque perfectly complement the imposing yet elegant lines of the Woodie Estate. The combination of painted steel bodywork and beautifully restored timber framing gives the car an unmistakable presence, while the spacious estate body retains the practical character for which these cars were originally designed.

The 1937 Ford Woodie represents a fascinating period in American motoring, when Ford’s innovative V8 technology was combined with traditional coach built-style timber construction to create an automobile that was both practical and highly distinctive. Today, surviving examples have become increasingly sought-after, particularly those with genuine pre-war provenance and a comprehensive restoration such as this.

Having been the subject of a five-year, £75, 000 restoration by its current owner, this Canadian-built, UK-registered-from-new Woodie presents as a highly impressive example of one of Ford’s most recognisable and collectable pre-war models.

A superb piece of American automotive history, offering rarity, character and considerable visual appeal, and equally at home being enjoyed on the open road or presented at classic-car events.

Supplied with an extensive history file a current V5 document, photographic record of its restoration along with numerous invoices.
