The SS Jaguar 3½ Litre Drophead Coupé represents the absolute pinnacle of pre-war British elegance and engineering, created in an era when the marque, under the leadership of William Lyons, set the standard for luxury sports cars. Known for its majestic silhouette and technological sophistication, this model was one of the fastest production cars on the market at the time, with the Drophead Coupe (DHC) version offering a unique three-position roof that combined the comfort of a closed car with the pleasure of open-top driving. As one of the last examples produced before the outbreak of the Second World War, it bears the proud SS designation, making it an exceptionally rare collector’s item with an unmistakable historical pedigree. The car is from the rare 1939 model year, fitted with a powerful 3, 486 cc inline six-cylinder engine which, thanks to modifications by the legendary Harry Weslake, delivers 88 kW (120 hp). Between 2018 and 2021, the car underwent a meticulous and uncompromising restoration: whilst the engine received a top-class mechanical overhaul at the very heart of British motoring by the specialists at CMES, the bodywork and mechanical components were entrusted to a renowned expert in historic Jaguars, Mr Johannes Schilcher of Oldtimer Klassik. To preserve the car’s authenticity and soul, the original leather upholstery with its natural patina has been sensitively retained, which, combined with the brilliant white paintwork, creates a captivating visual whole.
