Beschrijving
For sale is an Italian Vespa 125 Faro Basso V31 from 1951 with an an exceptional set of parts, restored in 2001 with the goal of achieving a restoration as true to the original as possible.
I was fascinated not only by its timeless design, but above all by the history of the early Italian wide-frame models. The restoration was therefore never undertaken with the goal of achieving a perfect high-gloss finish, but rather with the utmost respect for the original and the aim of preserving an authentic vehicle for decades to come.
Today—some 25 years later—I am parting with the Vespa solely because I spend most of the year traveling, and as a result, it is ridden far too infrequently. I hope to find a new owner who will appreciate this special vehicle just as much as I do.
The Vespa is ready to ride; I can provide a video upon request.
---------
VEHICLE
For sale is an Italian Vespa 125 Faro Basso V31 built in 1951.
The Vespa was imported from Italy to Germany in the 1990s and has been in my possession since 2001.
The vehicle comes with an exceptionally comprehensive collection of original and replacement parts, which has been carefully assembled over many years and is included in this offer.
---------
IDENTIFICATION
The Vespa is offered with the following components:
- Chassis: V31T
- Installed engine: V32M
This is therefore not a matching-numbers vehicle. The registered V32M engine ensures reliable performance.
---------
RESTORATION
The restoration was carried out in 2001 with the goal of restoring the vehicle as faithfully as possible to its original condition.
Particular emphasis was placed on preserving the original structure. The body was deliberately pickled rather than sandblasted to protect the original sheet metal as much as possible.
To the best of my knowledge, no welding work was required or noticeable. The Vespa features original sheet metal parts; only the fender and the side cover of the luggage compartment are made of sheet steel instead of the aluminum version originally used.
V2A stainless steel screws were used wherever possible.
---------
PAINT JOB
The paint job was carried out by a specialist shop using the historic color Max Meyer 6002M “Verde Metallizzato.”
Since this color is no longer available today, Sikkens created a paint formulation faithful to the original using a special mixing formula. This was based on the color formula provided by the Fédération Internationale des Vespa Clubs Rome.
The invoice for the paint job and the corresponding letter are on file.
Even today—some 25 years after the restoration—the paintwork remains in very fine and well-maintained condition.
---------
MECHANICS
The engine and carburetor were completely overhauled during the restoration. Wear parts were replaced with new parts or—where appropriate and available—with original parts.
To improve reliability and suitability for everyday use, the scooter was converted to a 12-volt system.
This includes:
- PX Lusso ignition
- Custom-made rotor
- Polini CP 19 carburetor
---------
All original parts needed for a rollback are, of course, included in the offer:
- Original ignition
- Original pole wheel
- Original carburetor
- Original electrical system
---------
CONDITION
The Vespa has been stored in a dry, warm place for the past 25 years or so and has only been driven occasionally with a red license plate.
Following restoration, a §21 StVZO inspection report was issued; the German road permit is available.
---------
SCOPE of Delivery

- Polished aluminum handlebar head with speedometer, speedometer cable, and sprocket
- Passenger seat, upholstered to match the main seat in green faux leather
- Spare wheel in original paint with powder-coated mount
