1937 Austin 7 Ruby

The Ruby and Pearl model were introduced towards the end of the Seven production and represented quite a refined car compared with its earlier siblings. The interior was well trimmed, the seats comfortable and it had a front opening windscreen, sliding sunroof and wind-down windows to the front and rear. Still powered by the 747cc engine, the four-speed gearbox boasted synchromesh in 2nd, 3rd and fourth gears.

This Austin 7 Ruby was first registered on the 27th February 1937 in Dundee, it has now made its way south where it has been for a number of years.

The engine starts and runs well, it has good oil pressure and no frost damage. It has a new 6V battery fitted and the charging system is working correctly.

The drivetrain is fully functional with no nasty noises, it selects gears with ease and the clutch is typical of an Austin 7. It drives well, it has good tyres all round and handles how it should,

The Ruby is an older restoration, it’s very solid and has a good look about it. The underside is clean and tidy with no corrosion. The paintwork is far from immaculate, it polishes up and shines well, it has character and has mellowed nicely.

The interior is very original, and no doubt could tell some stories. It’s in good order and again has a lovely look about it.
