Brand History

The Peugeot brand has a history stretching back several decades. In 1810, brothers Jean-Pierre II and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot transformed the family grain mill into a business specialising in the manufacture of steel goods.

They produced notably tools, springs, saw blades and, later, household items such as coffee grinders.

The company gradually became interested in mechanical devices and, in 1882, Peugeot unveiled its first bicycle: the famous "Grand Bi".

After several years of experimentation in the field of new mechanical technologies, Peugeot built its first motor car in 1890, equipped with a Daimler petrol engine.

From that point on, Peugeot truly became a motor manufacturer.

Following the First World War, Peugeot introduced the Quadrilette, at a time when affordable motoring was becoming increasingly important.

Peugeot's objective was to create an extremely lightweight car, simple, easy to maintain, economical to purchase and inexpensive to run.

In 1921, Peugeot launched the first Quadrilette, the Type 161. Just one year later, the brand presented the Type 172, an improved version of the 161.

This Peugeot dates from 1923 and is therefore an early example of the Quadrilette Type 172. Several body styles were offered for the 172, but this particular bodywork is rarely encountered and makes this example particularly unique.

The Car Today

The Engine

The engine is a four-cylinder with a displacement of 667 cc. The car is equipped with a three-speed gearbox with reverse and achieves a maximum speed of approximately 55 km/ h.

This Peugeot is originally French. According to known history, it was discovered in a barn in Belgium, then sold to its previous owner, who undertook a complete restoration.

The work included repainting, interior refurbishment, hood and tyres, as well as a complete overhaul and recommissioning of the engine.

The Peugeot starts by hand crank, runs and changes gear perfectly, and all the lighting functions correctly.
