To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' The Munich Auction event, 20 November 2026.

Specially ordered with rear seats; reportedly a unique feature to this 964-type RS 3.8

Boasts single German ownership from new; configured for country code “C00”

Retains its matching-numbers naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six; circa 2005 rebuild completed by Plant 1 Head of Engine Technology Helmut Pietsch

One of only 55 examples of the Carrera RS 3.8 built; the ultimate air-cooled RS

Finished in the iconic shade of Speed Yellow over a black leather interior

In the eyes of many, the 964-generation Carrera RS 3.8 is the ultimate road-going 911 from the vaunted air-cooled era. Inherently linked to motorsport, the model was conceived by Porsche to homologate the corresponding RSR race car. The basis was the already harder-edged Carrera RS, which was enhanced by a 200-cc larger 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six to deliver a healthy 300 horsepower to the rear wheels via a more durable five-speed manual gearbox. An undeniably intoxicating recipe; a mere 55 cars were built.

Even still, the example offered here stands proud. It was configured by a VIP client and ordered through Porsche Customer Racing Manager and famed marque historian Jürgen Barth, with the purchase invoice relayed via Porsche Centre Nuremberg on 12 December 1993. The customer specially requested that the pared-back interior have its rear seats, equipped with three-point seatbelts, reinstalled. Ideal for taking his children on the school run and to national motorsport meetings. Reportedly, it is the only RSR 3.8 with room for four.

Further adding to this 911’s extraordinary appeal, it was finished in the iconic shade of Speed Yellow with the seatbelts, door pulls, and—most significantly—the shells of the bucket front seats coloured to match. The rest of the interior comprises black leather with grey inserts, while further specification details include a locking differential, 18-inch split RS alloy wheels by Speedline, a driver and passenger airbag, plus a 92-litre fuel tank.

Configured for the home market with a “C00” country code, the Carrera RS 3.8 was collected by its one and only owner at the Weissach factory on 9 March 1994. A material defect resulted in an engine rebuild being carried out in January 1998. Requested via Porsche Centre Fürth-Erlangen, the work was again conducted in conjunction with Barth back at the factory.

The car has plainly been relished for its pure driving dynamics and, accordingly, maintained diligently. Recorded in the accompanying service book, the 911 returned to Porsche headquarters for inspection on no fewer than nine occasions through to October 2006. This included a second 'zero-tolerance' engine overhaul, which was overseen by Plant 1 Head of Engine Technology Helmut Pietsch. The subsequent dyno run recorded an impressive 324 horsepower. More recently, between 2008 and its latest service in July 2027, the car was submitted to marque specialist Kurt Ecke Motorsport.

Further to its owner’s guides, this car is offered with its spare wheel, tool roll, original exhaust and coilover suspension, plus a copy of the definitive Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 book by Barth, Norbert Franz, and Robert Weber. A feat to be celebrated and reflecting the enthusiasm of its commissioning owner, the 911 displayed 185,440 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.

Such is the vendor’s special relationship with Porsche top brass, this wonderful Carrera RS 3.8 boasts a unique specification further to two engine rebuilds and long-time service history with the factory itself. Among the most interesting examples of the already very rare and sought-after homologation special, this car deserves to find another adoring custodian.
