Immediately preceding the switch to pop-up headlamps, just six right-hand-drive Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinettas were reportedly built with the Plexiglass light cover while also featuring a leather-trimmed steering wheel and headrests. Among them, chassis number 1411 was completed on 10 February 1971 wearing Oro Chiaro paint over Beige Connolly hide.

Delivered new to Australia via official marque dealership W H Lowe in Melbourne, this car was first owned by Mr Alan Watkins of Balwyn, Victoria before being acquired by Supreme Court Justice Stuart Murdoch. Sparingly driven under his long-term care, the Ferrari was serviced by long-time Lowe employee John W Allan of JW Allan Automotive, then sold in 2005 to another significant collector and placed into storage until 2012.

Later appearing at several Australian concours events, chassis 1411 was imported into the United Kingdom via DK Engineering in 2014. The specialist additionally carried out Ferrari Classiche certification, with this car awarded its important “Red Book” in May 2015 that noted the presence of its matching-numbers body, gearbox, and V-12 engine.

Displayed at Salon Privé and the Italian Car Day at Brooklands in 2014, the Daytona was submitted for sympathetic refurbishment. This included a 2017 change to period-correct Blue Sera Metallizzato and renewal of the brightwork by Ross Packard. Meanwhile, the interior was retrimmed by Horsham-based classic Ferrari expert O’Rourke Coachtrimmers in Burgundy Connolly hide with the seats featuring the correct ‘Daytona stripes’—the configuration in which the car presents today.

Recent maintenance has been entrusted to Rardley Motors in Hampshire. A Quicksilver exhaust system was fitted and the vehicle underside cleaned in January 2025, between services conducted in June 2024 and January 2026. In September of this year, Riverside Performance Engineering replaced the starter motor and ice-blasted all four corners and the driveline.

Testament to chassis 1411, the vendor previously owned the car, sold it, and bought it back, such was his admiration. Since then, the Ferrari is reported to have performed faultlessly on a recent road trip to Spain.

Supporting this wonderful Daytona—alongside to its “Red Book”—the car is accompanied by a tool roll, owner’s guides, spart parts catalogue, Warranty Card, and original guarantee for the Voxon radio made out to the first owner, Mr Watkins. It also boasts air conditioning and still sits on the standard seven-inch wheels. The odometer reading of 29,758 miles at the time of cataloguing is believed to be genuine.

Refurbished but never restored and an incredibly rare specification that is considered by some to be the sweet spot of the model. Chassis 14111 is truly among the most desirable of Daytonas in existence. It would make for an excellent candidate to enjoy as part of driving tours and further display events in time for Ferrari’s upcoming 80th anniversary celebrations.
