Beschrijving

Delage CO2 was a model produced by the French luxury automobile manufacturer Delage in the early 1920’s. Model was introduced in 1921 as the „Grand Sport” which was in production together with Delage CO model with SV engine. The CO2 was about to replace both in 1923. It was powered by an 88hp robust inline-six overhead-valve engine from the Grand Sport model. Fitted with a cross-flow cylinder head, the engine produced ample power which was transmitted to the rear wheels via four-speed gearbox. With excellent four-wheel brakes it was one of the most technologically advanced cars of the era.

Like many Delage models of that time, the CO2 achieved success in motorsport events, such as Paris-Nice race, which the CO2 completed in 16 hours, at a average speed of 67 km/ h.

The example presented here has a continuous history. Delivered new by Rippon Bros. Ltd. in Huddersfield to Mr. Lasson, it was originally bodied as a two-door Torpedo. After several owners in Yorkshire, it was converted into a tow truck in the 1930s, with modifications to the rear of the bodywork. Withdrawn from service during the winter of 1940/ 41, the car remained in storage until 1964, when it was acquired by Nigel Arnold-Foster, former president of the V. S. C. C. (Vintage Sports-Car Club), and then in 1968 by Patrick Marsh, also a former president of the V. S. C. C.

A documented restoration shows rear of the car being restored to the original specification. Re-painted in red and black in 1990, it also received a soft top and side windscreens that year. This Delage CO2 has a wonderful history that is sure to spark the passion of lovers of the brand.
