Questa Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint, comunemente indicata come 1900 C SS, è uno dei rari esemplari dotati di carrozzeria in alluminio realizzata da Touring Superleggera. Essendo un esemplare terza serie, presenta fari fendinebbia integrati, plancia aggiornata e una strumentazione rivista con due quadranti principali e quattro strumenti secondari.

Questa Super Sprint, la cui produzione è stata completata il 29 marzo 1957, si presenta in Blu Cobalto con interni in tessuto grigio e dettagli in pelle rossa - medesima configurazione nella quale è stata consegnata al primo proprietario milanese nel luglio del 1958. L'esemplare è eligibile alla 1000 Miglia ed ha ottenuto la certificazione Targa Oro ASI. Il certificato Alfa Romeo conferma anche l'originalità del motore, che è infatti matching-numbers.

Vincitrice del Concorso di Poltu Quatu 2019, si presenta ancora oggi in condizioni impeccabili. Questo risultato è frutto di un lavoro meticoloso eseguito in sede di restauro; la meccanica è stata completamente revisionata, l’impianto di scarico sostituito per garantire massima efficienza e prestazioni, e ogni componente restaurato o rinnovato secondo necessità e nel pieno rispetto dell’originalità.

Rappresenta l’evoluzione più completa della serie coupé 1900, basata sul telaio “C” a passo corto da 2.500 mm, abbinato alla leggera carrozzeria in alluminio Superleggera di Touring. Il motore bialbero da 1.975 cc, potenziato fino a 115 CV e alimentato da doppi carburatori doppio corpo, consentiva una velocità massima di 190 km/h.

La 1900 C SS non fu mai carrozzata direttamente da Alfa Romeo; i telai venivano forniti ai principali carrozzieri italiani, che realizzavano coupé su misura e, più raramente, versioni spider. Tra queste, gli esemplari carrozzati Touring sono oggi i più ricercati. La rarità del modello è confermata dalle numerazioni di telaio, comprese tra 1900C.10001 e 1900C.10600, che suggeriscono una produzione complessiva di circa 600 esemplari Super Sprint, dei quali molti non sono sopravvissuti.

Più che una semplice coupé carrozzata, l’Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint incarna il concetto di “auto di famiglia che vince le corse”, sottolineando la duplice natura di praticità e vocazione sportiva. Il successo del modello nelle competizioni rafforzò questa identità, con partecipazioni a eventi come la 1000 Miglia, la Targa Florio e vari campionati turismo.

This Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint, commonly referred to as the 1900 C SS, is one of the rare examples fitted with the highly sought-after aluminium body by Touring Superleggera. As a third-series car, it features integrated fog lamps, the updated dashboard, and a revised instrument layout with two main gauges and four secondary instruments.

Delivered new to Milan, Italy, in Blu Cobalto over grey fabric, with red leather interior trim, this car still retains the same, original color configuration and its matching-numbers engine. It is eligible for the 1000 Miglia and holds the ASI Targa Oro certification, confirming full conformity to its original 1957 specification.

Winner of the 2019 Poltu Quatu concours, the car remains today in true concours condition. This result is the outcome of meticulous work; the mechanical components were fully overhauled, the exhaust system correctly replaced, and all parts restored or renewed where necessary to ensure complete originality.

It represents the ultimate evolution of the 1900 coupé series, based on the short-wheelbase 2,500 mm ‘C’ chassis fitted with Touring’s lightweight Superleggera aluminium body. The upgraded 1,975 cc twin-cam engine delivered 115 hp through twin downdraft carburettors, allowing the car to reach 190 km/h.

The 1900 C SS was never factory-bodied by Alfa Romeo; instead, rolling chassis were supplied to Italy’s leading coachbuilders, who crafted bespoke coupés and, more rarely, spider bodies. Among them, Touring-bodied examples are the most sought-after. The rarity of the model is reflected in chassis records, with Alfa Romeo’s sequence running from 1900C.10001 to 1900C.10600, suggesting that around 600 Super Sprint examples were built, of which many did not survive.

More than just a coachbuilt coupé, the Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint embodies “the family car that wins races,” emphasizing both its practicality and sporting potential. The model’s success in motorsport reinforced this dual-purpose identity, with entries in events such as the 1000 Miglia, the Targa Florio, and various touring car championships.
