Highlights:

– 1.3-litre flat-four engine, petrol, 4-speed manual transmission

– AB-code engine producing 44 hp

– Front disc brake conversion, officially approved and registered

– Extensive list of renewed parts, with invoices

– 85,600 km on the odometer

The private seller offers for sale this 1984 Volkswagen Beetle, powered by a 1.3-litre air-cooled flat-four engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in silver-blue metallic with a light blue interior, the car is fitted with the AB-code engine producing 44 hp, a noticeable step up in performance over the standard 1.2-litre unit of this era. It has a historic vehicle registration, recently passed its periodic technical inspection in September 2026 and shows 85,600 km on the odometer.

The Beetle has been converted to front disc brakes, with the conversion officially approved and entered in the registration papers, and a set of new ATE brake pads is included in the sale. TDE tailpipes are fitted. A long list of parts has been renewed, including the brake lines, brake hoses, brake drums and wheel cylinders, the exhaust, the clutch cable, the heater cable, the speedometer cable, the ignition coil and the spark plugs. The carburettor has been completely dismantled, rebuilt and adjusted by a specialist, the seats have been reupholstered, the battery is about one year old, the engine runs on classic engine oil and speakers have been fitted in the rear. Invoices are available for all parts that have been replaced.

Few cars have left a mark on automotive history like the Volkswagen Beetle. Designed in the 1930s and produced from 1945 onwards, it went on to become one of the best-selling cars ever built, with more than 21.5 million examples produced before production finally ended in Mexico in 2003. This 1984 car was built at Volkswagen’s Puebla plant in Mexico and belongs to the final series of Beetles officially imported and sold in Europe, after production at Emden had ended in 1978.

The appeal of the Beetle lies in its simplicity and character. The rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-four with its unmistakable sound, the rounded body with separate wings and running boards, and the honest, straightforward driving experience make it one of the most recognisable and loved classics on the road. Parts are widely available and the mechanicals are easy to maintain, which makes a Beetle an ideal and affordable entry into classic car ownership. With its upgraded brakes, stronger engine and documented recent work, this Beetle is ready for many more enjoyable kilometres.
