BMW M3 Cabriolet (E36) | 1999

Highlights:

– 3.2-litre straight-six engine, petrol, automatic transmission

– Finished in the iconic M colour Estoril Blue

– Brand-new soft top

– Matching Estoril Blue hardtop included

– 121,523 miles on the odometer

The private seller offers for sale this 1999 BMW M3 Cabriolet, powered by a 3.2-litre straight-six engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in Estoril Blue, the colour most closely associated with the E36 M3, the car is combined with a light grey leather interior with the characteristic M tricolour stripes on the sports seats, a dark blue soft top and the classic M Double Spoke alloy wheels. The odometer reads 121,523 miles. A particularly attractive feature is the accompanying hardtop, also painted in matching Estoril Blue, which turns the cabriolet into a comfortable year-round coupé.

The car has recently been fitted with a brand-new soft top and has been serviced using the correct specified oil. It recently passed its roadworthiness inspection, which is valid until 23 March 2027, and all paperwork is present. The photos show a well-presented car with a tidy cabin, including the original M steering wheel, the M instrument cluster with its red-lit needles and the on-board computer.

The E36 generation M3 was launched in 1992 and marked a turning point for BMW’s M division: where the original E30 M3 was a homologation special, the E36 brought M performance to a much wider audience, with six-cylinder power, everyday refinement and a choice of coupé, saloon and cabriolet bodies. The cabriolet joined the range in 1994, and from 1995 the model was upgraded to the 3.2-litre engine. Production of the E36 M3 Cabriolet ended in 1999, making this one of the final examples built, and open-top M3s of this generation have always been produced in far smaller numbers than the coupé.

The appeal of the E36 M3 Cabriolet lies in its combination of refined open-air cruising and genuine M-car character. The silky straight-six delivers smooth, linear power across the rev range, while the automatic transmission makes this a relaxed and effortless grand tourer, ideal for long summer drives with the roof down. The subtle aerodynamic bodykit, the M mirrors and the low stance give the car a purposeful but understated look that has aged exceptionally well. With a new soft top, a matching hardtop, full paperwork and its signature colour, this M3 Cabriolet is an appealing modern classic for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
