Beschrijving

For many years, Pininfarina’s designers conceived and created cars for Peugeot, but their masterpiece was arguably the Peugeot 504 Cabriolet (and its twin, the Coupé). This view is supported not least by the fact that the timeless Cabriolet was produced for fourteen years with virtually no changes. The successor to the Peugeot 404 Cabriolet was unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1969. It was very well received, as the Cabriolet (like the Coupé) boasted modern, flowing lines and differed more markedly from the saloon – which was produced in parallel – than its predecessor had. Technically, however, the new model was closely based on the Peugeot 504 saloon and utilized the same four-cylinder engine with fuel injection. The suspension systems – front struts with lower wishbones and longitudinal anti-roll bars, and rear independent suspension with triangular wishbones – also corresponded to the saloon’s design. For the first time in decades, however, the gear lever in a Peugeot was once again operated via a gear lever mounted on the cardan tunnel, thus marking a departure from the steering-wheel-mounted gearshift. For the conversion from saloon to cabriolet/coupé, three main changes were made compared with the saloon: a shorter wheelbase, a longer final drive ratio and a stiffer suspension set-up. In general, the new cabriolet was distinctly geared towards luxury and touring comfort, though it was also capable of meeting moderate sporting demands. This beautiful Peugeot 504 cabriolet was originally delivered in Switzerland and was first registered on 27 March 1980. The early history of this elegant French car is unknown – though it appears to have spent many years in the Bernese Seeland region before being acquired in 2023 by a collector of this model. At the end of 2024, the collector had to part with his Peugeot due to lack of space, and the 504 was taken over by the current owner. Due to his advancing age, the current owner has used the elegant convertible very sparingly, which is also why he now wishes to part with it again. Generally speaking, the Peugeot has been driven very little over the past 16 years – since being granted veteran status in August 2010, it has covered just 2'600 km. The vehicle is currently in very good overall condition, and the odometer reading of just under 99'900 km is likely to correspond to the original mileage. The last veteran MOT took place in September 2024.
