Beschrijving

Chrysler had launched the LeBaron range – whose name refers to a former New York-based coachbuilder – for the 1977 model year. The first LeBaron was, at the time, the shortest car in the Chrysler range, but it boasted above-average equipment levels and was intended to compete in the luxury mid-size saloon segment against the Cadillac Seville and the Lincoln Versailles. In 1980, it introduced the front-wheel-drive K-platform, which was designed for cars with an overall length of less than five metres. This basic design, which was repeatedly adapted using a modular system, formed the basis for almost all vehicles produced by the Chrysler Group until 1990. The second-generation LeBaron was initially available in the full range of standard body styles – coupé, saloon and estate – with a convertible added to the range in 1983. The convertible was the first open-top US car to be mass-produced in a long time. Production of the Cadillac Eldorado, the last American mass-produced convertible, had ceased in 1976, resulting in a long period without convertibles from American manufacturers. In 1987, the LeBaron, built on the J-platform (AJ-body), was unveiled. In Europe, it was only available as a coupé and a convertible. The Chrysler LeBaron convertible offered here, featuring a 3-litre V6 engine, automatic gearbox and leather interior, was originally delivered to Switzerland and was first registered on 1 April 1990. In 1997, with just over 44'000 km on the clock at the time, the convertible passed to its last registered owner. He used his LeBaron extensively at first, before, from 2006 onwards, driving it for only around 2'500 km initially, and later just under 1'000 km per year. A few years ago – according to the documents – the odometer stopped working when the trip meter was reset, meaning that the 96'612 km shown is likely to correspond to an actual mileage of just under 100'000 km. At the end of 2025, the Chrysler was taken over by the seller, who never registered the car and is now selling it again for health reasons. The LeBaron drives well; the bodywork is sound; the interior shows signs of wear and tear typical for its age; the soft top works perfectly, although it has been repaired in a few places and should be replaced at some point. The last MOT took place in November 2022.
