The Corvette is an extravagant sports car with supreme American car authenticity. It has been produced continuously since 1953 as a subdivision of Chevrolet and General Motors. Eight iterations have been built. The name 'Corvette,' derived from a small and agile warship, is far from a lullaby—it keeps going. In 2020, the eighth Corvette, the C8, was released, and it is extraordinary, best described with superlatives. The ninth Corvette, the C9, has already been presented and will be available for sale in 2028.

After World War II, General Motors held mobile car shows called GM Motorama, traveling across the United States to showcase prototypes. Based on audience reactions, they decided whether to proceed with production. In 1952, a prototype of the Corvette was showcased. The American market lacked sports cars, which had previously only been produced by European manufacturers. The Corvette aimed to venture into this uncharted territory. The Americans responded enthusiastically, and production began in summer 1953. Only 300 Corvettes were built in the first year, but production continued steadily.

The Corvette is the flagship model of Chevrolet and General Motors, always equipped with the most modern and innovative technology. It explores uncharted territory, which keeps it dynamic and exciting.

The Corvette was introduced quickly in response to the enthusiasm during the GM Motorama. However, initial models did not meet expectations and were considered too expensive. When Ford's Thunderbird entered the market, competition intensified. Despite early challenges, the C1 evolved into an icon.

In 1953, only around 300 C1s were manufactured. Despite the innovative fiberglass bodywork, the straight-six engine with a two-speed transmission did not captivate the American audience. In 1955, the C1 was upgraded with a V8 engine, which became standard in 1956 after discontinuing the straight-six.

In 1958, the exterior underwent significant changes: tail fins on the rear were removed, and the headlights were doubled, resulting in four headlights instead of two. The C1 was succeeded by the C2 in 1962, which bore a strong resemblance to earlier C1 models.

What initially seemed like a financial setback for General Motors eventually turned into an automotive icon, considered the first post-war American sports car to outshine European competitors on American roads.
