One of two known surviving Canadian built / Dagenham supplied RHD 91A convertible coupe’s. Originally a black car registered TOR 10, it was pictured in the Ford’s of Britain book many years ago. Unfortunately the registration was removed in the late nineties and it now has an age related plate. The previous owner had the car painted dark red and stored it for many years before I acquired it several years ago.

In my ownership it has been subjected to a complete mechanical rebuild, with the following work carried out…

Front axle complete rebuild including new kingpins / bolling bros drums and tube shock conversion.

Rear axle complete rebuild including axle cases machined for new hardened bearing sleeves, new brakes and tube shock conversion.

Rear end is lowered for a mild custom look with longer shackles, very easily returned to standard height.

New bob drake fuel tank and sender.

Carter electric fuel pump.

Rebuilt steering box, upper column bearing conversion and steering wheel and column refurbishment.

New correct wiring loom by auto sparks.

Newport engineering 2 speed electric wiper conversion.

Refurbished 40 Ford wheels with new caps and beauty rings

New Firestone wide whites all round

New stainless steel dual exhaust

All new brake lines, fuel lines.

New master cylinder and brake pedals rebuilt.

Rebuilt 1939 wide synchro gearbox by the late Alan Brock early Ford transmission specialist using only NOS Ford parts and bearings.

Engine later 8BA engine, rebuilt to the following specs

Bored 3 5/ 16 mercury crank stroked to 4 1/ 8 to give 284 cubic inches.

Scat I beam rods.

Ross forged pistons

New camshaft ground to Literio L100 specifications.

1. 6” stainless valves, new hardened seats, isky adjustable lifters and springs.

New edelbrock 59A style block letter heads.

Edelbrock slingshot intake with two new stromberg 97’s

New powergen alternator

New high flow water pumps

New clutch / refaced flywheel.

All parts that were removed from the chassis were blast cleaned and painted in epoxy primer / 2k top coat.

The chassis is rust free and in remarkable shape for an English car.

The body has had part of the rear floor and lower wheel wells replaced at some point, they look to be very old repairs. The rear rumble / dickey seat handle has been removed and it is operated by a lever behind the drivers seat now. There is a crude repair to the centre bar of the grille. The red paint looks to have been applied over the black, it presents ok, it’s not a show winner, more of a 10 footer. There are various marks on the paint and some bubbling on the top of the rear quarters.

The hood is complete and functions as it should, although the top material is very dry and starting to split. Because it is dry it does not fold all the way down in to the recess.

All of the rare stainless door window frames are in lovely condition.

The gauges all work although two in the cluster are incorrect, they and the speedo face are 1938. I have a mint 39 speedo face to include.

Less than 500 miles covered since work was completed.

To summarise, it’s never been fully apart or fully cosmetically restored. If I were to keep it the next jobs I would do would be have the radiator recored and restore the dash and grille. I had intended to carry out a body off restoration at some point but simply have too many cars and projects.

Car will be sold with a standard ignition system. The magneto on angle drive will be removed. I would also sell the car minus engine and transmission by negotiation.
