The 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a classic two-seat personal luxury car that combined mid-century styling with V8 performance.

Design and Unique Features

• Continental Kit: The spare tire moved outside to the rear bumper. This added trunk space inside.

• Porthole Hardtop: Round circular windows were added to the removable fiberglass hardtop. This improved side-rear visibility.

• Ventilation: Vents were added behind the front wheels and on the windshield cowl to cool the cabin.

• Exhaust: Exhaust tips were routed straight out the ends of the rear bumper.

• Engine Options: Powered by a Y-block V8. Choices included a standard 292 cubic-inch engine (202 hp) or an optional 312 cubic-inch engine (up to 225 hp).

• Transmission: Available with a 3-speed manual, manual with overdrive, or a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic.

• Top Speed: Reached roughly 115 mph (185 km/ h).
