The private seller offers for sale this 1975 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, powered by a 4.2-litre Toyota 2F inline six-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. This soft top FJ40 left the factory in September 1975 as a genuine Gulf-specification example and spent its life in the dry climate of Yemen before being imported into Europe in 2026. It retains its factory configuration throughout: the period-correct light green paintwork, a canvas soft top with roll-up side curtains, the original 2F engine (engine no. 2F-043580), a split front bench and two folding side-facing benches in the rear, giving seven seats in total. The contrast of the green body against the white Toyota grille surround, chrome bumper and round headlamps gives it exactly the look that has made the FJ40 so recognisable around the world.
The vehicle has been restored, with work carried out on the paintwork, the upholstery and the mechanicals, using original Toyota parts. The interior presents with black seat upholstery and green painted metal floors and panels, as Toyota intended for a working vehicle. Ownership history is documented from the last owner in the region through to its import into Europe. The accompanying paperwork includes the original sale contract, the traffic police clearance certificate, the certificate of origin, the export customs declaration, the bill of lading and the commercial invoice, and invoices for the restoration work are also available. No service records exist from the vehicle’s earlier life. The export documents state 1971 and 3.9 litres due to a clerical error; the chassis and engine numbers confirm a September 1975 build with the 2F engine.
The Land Cruiser 40 Series was introduced in 1960 and remained in production in Japan until 1984, with assembly continuing in Brazil for many years after. Built as a tough, simple and dependable off-road vehicle, it quickly earned a reputation in the deserts of the Middle East, the outback of Australia and the bush of Africa, where reliability mattered more than anything else. The FJ40, the short-wheelbase version, is the most iconic of the family, and it laid the foundations for the Land Cruiser name that Toyota still uses today. In the Gulf region especially, the FJ40 became the vehicle of choice for anyone who needed to cross difficult terrain far from help.
Mechanically the FJ40 is pleasingly straightforward. The 2F engine, introduced in 1975 as the successor to the 3.9-litre F engine, is a long-stroke overhead-valve inline six known for its strong low-down torque and robust construction. Combined with a ladder frame, leaf-sprung solid axles front and rear and a selectable four-wheel-drive transfer case, it gives the FJ40 its rugged, honest driving character. That mechanical simplicity, together with the short wheelbase and timeless styling, explains why well-presented and original-specification FJ40s have become some of the most sought-after classic off-roaders among collectors.
With its documented history, original engine, factory colour scheme and seven-seat soft top configuration, this 1975 Land Cruiser FJ40 offers an attractive opportunity to own one of the defining off-road vehicles of its era, ready to be enjoyed on the road, on the trail or at classic car events.
