Offered for sale is this fantastic 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Split Screen Panel Van, UK-supplied and right-hand drive.

The opportunity to acquire a Split Screen panel van is becoming increasingly rare. Whilst many have been adapted into campers, this example remains true to its commercial roots as a panel van, ready to work, with a host of substantial mechanical upgrades to make its duties that little bit easier.

Confirmed by the Volkswagen birth certificate, this Split Screen was specified as a right-hand-drive panel van. It was built on 14th October 1965 and supplied to Ramsgate, England, in November of the same year.

The exterior remains largely in original order, with no further enhancements. The bodywork has seen a number of colour changes throughout its life and now presents in the off-white, with a pale green hue you see today. There are a series of minor cosmetic imperfections around the exterior, which we feel add a subtle touch of honesty and character rather than detracting from the vehicle.

Moving inside, the interior remains largely original, with the exception of USB and 12V sockets discreetly positioned beneath the dashboard. The seats have been recovered in past time and show minor patination. The interior panels and door cards have also been renewed.

Powering this Split Screen is a new 1776cc engine, fitted with twin Weber 34 ICT carburettors and a Vintage Speed exhaust. The engine package was supplied by the VW Engine Company and would cost just shy of £10, 000 today. It has covered no more than 500 miles, and we have completed its running-in service.

Further enhancing the mechanical specification, the front end features a Brazilian T2 king and link pin setup with brake calipers, and independent rear suspension to complement the narrow five wheel pattern on the front.

The mechanical specification has been thoughtfully upgraded to enhance its capability for modern-day commercial use, without losing sight of its intended purpose or charm.

Moving your attention to the underside, we consider this as a survivor model which has received some structural repairs carried out over the years and presents in good order, albeit, with general surface corrosion and recommendation for undersealing.

To complement the sale, we have given this Split Screen a thorough mechanical go through, its freshly serviced and has been fitted with new tyres. We will also MOT the vehicle once a sale has been agreed.
