The seller offers for sale this 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 2+2, powered by a 4.2-litre straight-six engine, paired with an automatic transmission. In the current owner’s hands since 2017, the car has benefited from a number of mechanical upgrades over the years: the engine and gearbox have been overhauled, a new fuel tank fitted, and the brakes and suspension renewed. A stainless steel exhaust system has also been installed, along with a number of smaller optimisations, and a handful of areas of paint damage have been neatly repaired. The interior is the area most in need of attention going forward, though the car is otherwise ready to drive and comes with its Jaguar Heritage Certificate as well as an extensive valuation report.
Introduced in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type redefined what a sports car could look like, its long bonnet, sweeping fastback roofline and minimal overhangs drawing directly on Jaguar’s Le Mans-winning D-Type racers. The 2+2 version, launched in 1966, stretched the wheelbase and roofline to add a pair of occasional rear seats and a taller windscreen, broadening the E-Type’s appeal without sacrificing its dramatic proportions. Under the bonnet, the 4.2-litre version of Jaguar’s XK straight-six engine offered a useful increase in torque and driveability over the earlier 3.8-litre cars, while retaining the effortless, long-legged character that made the E-Type one of the definitive grand touring sports cars of the 1960s. Regularly cited among the most beautiful cars ever built, a Series 1 E-Type in usable, well-sorted order such as this one remains a genuinely rewarding car to drive as well as to own.
