Beschrijving

The 1999 Lamborghini Diablo SV is one of the most striking and rare versions of the Diablo, representing the final evolution of the Super Veloce concept equipped with the 5.7-liter engine. Launched in the late 1990s, this model emerged during a period of significant transformation for Lamborghini and received several aesthetic, mechanical, and safety changes that modernized the Diablo without removing the extremely pure and aggressive character that defined the car. Visually, the most evident feature of the Diablo SV facelift is at the front. The traditional retractable headlights of the early Diablos were abandoned and replaced by fixed headlights integrated into the body and protected by transparent covers. This new configuration significantly altered the appearance of the front of the car and became one of the most immediate ways to identify Diablos from this final phase. The body, however, maintained the extreme proportions that made the model famous: a very low front, a steeply raked windshield, enormous side air intakes, and a wide rear that highlighted the central position of the engine. The SV maintained a particularly aggressive appearance thanks to its 18-inch wheels and enormous rear tires. It used 235/35 ZR18 tires at the front and 335/30 ZR18 at the rear, demonstrating the huge difference in width between the two axles. The large rear spoiler, often associated with the Diablo SV, could also be fitted to the car, while the well-known "SV" identification on the sides reinforced the connection to the Super Veloce version. Power was sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. This configuration preserved the SV's more direct character and provided a rather mechanical driving experience, at a time when electronic systems were beginning to play an increasingly important role in high-performance cars. Its performance placed it among the fastest cars of its time. The SV facelift could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately four seconds and reach a top speed close to 320 km/h, particularly impressive figures in the late 1990s. The chassis used a tubular steel structure, combined with high-strength components and lightweight materials in the body. The suspension was independent and used double wishbones, coil springs, and stabilizer bars. The steering used a rack and pinion system with hydraulic assistance, maintaining a fairly direct connection between the driver and the front axle. The braking system also received a significant modernization. The SV facelift used large ventilated and perforated Brembo discs, approximately 355 mm in diameter at the front and 335 mm at the rear. The car also benefited from ABS.A significant evolution in terms of safety and control in a vehicle capable of exceeding 300 km/h. Inside, the facelift introduced a redesigned and more modern dashboard. The instrument panel became more integrated, and the cabin now incorporated safety equipment such as airbags. Despite these changes, the atmosphere remained typically Diablo. The driving position was exotic, the windshield very inclined, and the cabin maintained a cramped and driver-oriented feel. The famous vertically opening doors were naturally still present, constituting one of the model's most emblematic visual characteristics.
