The Mini Moke is a small, front-wheel-drive utility vehicle originally conceived by British Motor Corporation (BMC) as a lightweight military vehicle. Designed around the mechanical simplicity of the Mini, its compact dimensions and straightforward construction were intended to make it suitable for military use, although the concept ultimately proved better suited to civilian and leisure use. Production of the original British-built Moke took place at BMC’s Longbridge plant between 1964 and 1968, with 14, 518 examples produced in the UK during this period.

Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this particularly interesting 1968 Morris Mini Moke, a wonderfully presented example with an unusually well-documented history and just one former keeper recorded from new. First registered on 1st November 1968, it is one of the very last UK-built Mokes and is finished in its traditional and highly appropriate green.

Adding further interest is the fact that this is a Mk2 Moke. The Mk2 differed in a number of details from the earlier Mk1 cars and was produced in relatively small numbers towards the end of British production, making surviving examples particularly appealing to collectors.

This particular Moke has benefited from an extensive, no-expense-spared restoration carried out by one of its previous owners, a project which took more than two years to complete. The entire body shell was shot blasted, removing all previous paint and underseal until the shell was taken back to bare metal before being carefully resprayed. The restoration continued throughout the car, with nuts and bolts replaced with new items wherever possible, resulting in a Moke which has been returned to excellent condition while retaining the simple character that makes these cars so appealing.

The four seats fitted to the car were originally optional equipment when new, and both the seat squabs and hood have been replaced as part of the restoration. Since completion, the Moke has been used predominantly for shows and exhibitions rather than everyday road use and has been the recipient of several ‘Best in Class’ trophies. Indeed, the owner recalls that it has only ever been driven in the rain once during his ownership.

The history is unusually interesting. Mr Peter William Foulkes of Liverpool owned the Moke from 1977 until 1981, followed by Mr Leo Jack from 1981 until 2005. The current owner acquired the car in 2005 and retained it until 2026. When purchased, the Moke had not been on the road for many years, and the owner subsequently contacted the DVLA to return it to the road. The relevant forms were completed, a new MOT obtained and a replacement V5 issued with the correct information. Both V5 documents, together with the correspondence relating to the process, remain within the history file.

The accompanying documentation is particularly pleasing and includes lots of MOT history, historic tax discs, the Mini Moke Driver’s Handbook Supplement, a copy of A Guide to Mini Mokes magazine produced by the Mini Moke Club, a period Mini Moke sales brochure and a small collection of photographs taken by the previous owner during his custodianship.

This is a wonderfully charismatic and increasingly collectible example of one of BMC’s most unusual creations. With its very late 1968 registration, Mk2 specification, extensive restoration and excellent history file, it represents a superb opportunity to acquire a genuine British-built Mini Moke with the sort of provenance and presentation that makes these cars such enjoyable additions to any classic collection.
