Just Arrived at The Garage

1930 Austin Seven ‘Boat-tail’ Two-Seater

One of the most appealing models of all Austin Sevens must surely be the distinctive ‘Boat-tail’ two-seater, produced from 1929 to 1932. Its attractive semi-fabric styling, useful luggage capacity and original price of just £130 were among the factors that made this model so popular.

This particular example was restored approximately 40 years ago, with a new body constructed by respected Austin Seven specialist John Heath. The quality of the restoration was subsequently recognised with no fewer than thirteen concours awards, including both first and second places.

Correctly finished in Austin blue and black, the car has since mellowed beautifully and now displays a pleasing patina throughout. The weather equipment is reported to be in very good order and includes a tonneau cover.

For greater practicality, the car has been converted to 12-volt electrics and is fitted with discreet flashing indicators. An SU carburettor has also been fitted, providing improved running and fuel economy.

Of particular interest, this is the actual car illustrated in Brian Purves’ Austin Seven Source Book, adding an interesting and documented element to its history.

Five new tyres were fitted in 2024 and the clutch has also been replaced.

A substantial history file accompanies this particularly charming Austin Seven.

Now arrived at The Garage and available for viewing by prior appointment.
