When released in the summer of 1993, the second-generation 900 was Saab's first General Motors-directed model. Many parts from other GM models were used in production. Externally, the car was similar to the first 900, the sharp edges now somewhat rounded. Technically, the most noticeable change from its predecessor was the transverse engine; the gearbox sat to the left of the engine. The more compact powertrain led to more interior space. Engines also included both atmospheric and turbocharged engines in addition to the Saab four-cylinder. By now, the Saab is a sought-after Youngtimer.
