Ford F-250 XLT Ranger | 1974
Highlights:
– 7.0-litre V8 engine, petrol, automatic transmission
– Originally a California truck; engine and transmission have been overhauled
– Shows only light surface corrosion
– Two-tone tan and white pick-up with XLT Ranger trim
The seller offers for sale this 1974 Ford F-250 XLT Ranger, powered by a 7.0-litre V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. The truck originates from California and was later imported to Germany, where it is registered with the German historic “H” vehicle plates, reflecting its classic-vehicle status. Both the engine and transmission have been overhauled, and according to the seller everything on the truck is reported to function. Consistent with its Californian origins, the body is said to show only light surface corrosion, without through-rust.
The truck is finished in a two-tone tan and white livery and features the XLT Ranger trim, Ford’s upgraded specification level for the F-Series that brought additional brightwork, a more finished interior and extra sound insulation over the base work-truck specification. Inside, the cabin retains its wide bench seat and features wood-tone dash trim typical of the period, giving the truck a warmer, more finished feel than a bare-bones commercial pickup, while the load bed remains functional for genuine use.
This generation of the Ford F-Series, produced from 1973 to 1979 and known among enthusiasts as the “dentside” trucks for their distinctive lower body crease, marked a significant step up in size, comfort and refinement over the F-Series that preceded it. The F-250 sat above the F-100 in the range as a heavier-duty three-quarter-ton pickup, aimed at buyers who needed greater load and towing capacity without stepping up to a full commercial truck. Offered with a range of six-cylinder and V8 engines, the F-Series of this era became one of the best-selling trucks in North America, prized then as now for its simple, durable mechanicals and straightforward, body-on-frame construction, qualities that continue to make well-kept examples like this one popular among American truck enthusiasts in Europe.
