Exterior / Body:

The example shown here is an AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK III BJ8 from January 1967 in the colour scheme “Colorado Red” with period “Black” flankings.

The body has been restored a few years ago and subsequently received a full repaint.

Overall, it presents very well with a uniform finish and excellent gloss.

After a professional polish by our workshop, we noted a scratch on the left front wing that has been corrected, and a small paint chip on the right rear wing that has been repaired.

The chrome bumpers are perfectly aligned and in excellent condition.

The bumper end caps are also in good order, with a slight oxidation on the front end caps.

This example features a chrome badge bar and its long over-riders.

The Black vinyl hood is in excellent condition with no signs of fading, wear or sagging.

Its installation is easy and its seal meets the era’s standards.

The mica windows are translucent, with no cracks or fractures.

This example has a Black vinyl hood cover, in perfect condition.

The four chrome wire wheels and their four knock-off spinners are in excellent condition.

VREDESTEIN tyres show 30% wear front and rear.

This example retains its original spare wheel (painted wire wheel).

Among the notable exterior/ body options this model is equipped with are: the chrome badge bar, the long over-riders and the Black vinyl hood cover.

Interior:

The Black leather upholstery with Red piping is in very good original condition with no major defects.

It shows a uniform patina, with no cracking or tears.

The walnut burr dashboard is in good condition.

The Black vinyl dash cap is in perfect condition.

All SMITHS dashboard instruments function correctly.

Heating fan control does not work.

This example wears a brand-new 3-spoke wooden MOTOLITA steering wheel and a wooden AUSTIN HEALEY gear knob in very good condition.

DUAL cassette radio is fully functional.

This car is fitted with aviation-style 2-point seat belts front and rear.

All Black carpets are in very good condition, protected by AUSTIN HEALEY PVC mats.

Spare wheel is the original (painted wire wheel).

Battery cut-off switch present.

Among the interior options and equipment of interest this car has: the 3-spoke wooden MOTOLITA steering wheel, the wooden AUSTIN HEALEY gear knob and the aviation-style 2-point seat belts (front and rear).

Chassis:

Docking on the ramp confirms a sound chassis and bodyshell with no visible structural corrosion.

Foundations: floors, rails, sills and wheel arches are in good condition. A few scuffs from a jack on the front crossmember were noted.

As a rule, we cannot guarantee perfection of alignments beyond what is visually and functionally validated on test drive and on the frame.

During the dynamic test, no abnormal rattles were detected in the body or suspension components (ball joints, bushings, etc.).

Braking is balanced, with no vibrations or abnormal noises.

Performance is enhanced by a Mastervac brake assist installed in the engine bay.

Front discs and pads show 10% wear.

The rear drums are fully functional with no seepage traces.

The upcoming pre-delivery technical inspection will confirm overall operation.

Engine / Transmission:

The mechanicals are in excellent condition.

Road test and compression tests by our workshop confirm a healthy 6-cylinder engine.

Starting is easy, with no smoke or abnormal noises.

Idle is stable and the engine does not overheat, as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running available at the start of the slideshow.

Oil pressure at cold start is 50 psi at 1100 rpm.

On the move the engine revs smoothly with no stumbles or suspicious smoke.

There is a minor rub mark on the engine sump.

Starting is aided by electronic ignition 123 injection.

The sound is enhanced by a complete stainless steel exhaust system (except manifold).

The gearbox operates perfectly: all four gears engage and disengage smoothly, with no hiccups in the syncro (except first gear, not synchronized).

The HEALEY 3000 is also fitted as standard with an interesting accessory: overdrive, providing electro-mechanical reduction for third and fourth gears.

Clutch bite is good.

This vehicle is also equipped with a battery cut-off switch.

As with many of these models, the engine/ gearbox/ differential seals are only average.
