Jensen Interceptor GT Mk I – Matching Numbers – Extensive Restoration – Exceptional History File

1968 Jensen Interceptor Mk I, chassis number 115/ 2860, a matching-numbers example that has been with its current owner and continuously improved for nearly 20 years.

This is an early Series I Interceptor accompanied by an exceptional history file including the factory build card, factory invoice, factory inspection sheets, warranty documentation and registration records.

Originally specified in Bitter Chocolate (now white) with Special Green trim. The rare Special Green interior remains one of the car's most attractive features.

Powered by its original matching-numbers Chrysler 383 V8 and automatic transmission, the car drives very well and has benefited from extensive mechanical restoration over many years.

The interesting history

The first customer was: Charles Follett Ltd., Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London

Charles Follett was a well-known London bookselling and publishing business. The build card specifically lists: CUSTOMER: CHARLES FOLLETT

which strongly suggests the car was supplied directly to the company or a principal associated with it.

The guarantee letter dated 21 May 1968 was sent to: W. Bannister Ltd., Lancashire which was a Jensen distributor/ dealer.

Factory Specification

• Chrysler 383 V8 engine (matching numbers)

• Automatic transmission

• Power steering

• Limited-slip differential

• Special Green interior trim

• Right-hand drive

Restoration and Mechanical Work

Over the course of ownership, substantial restoration work has been carried out, with parts and specialist labour estimated at approximately €30, 000.

Major work includes:

• Full respray in white

• Complete front suspension and axle rebuild

• Complete rear suspension and axle rebuild

• Complete Dunlop braking system renewal

• Engine rebuilt with new components

• Coated exhaust manifolds

• Stainless steel exhaust system

• Stainless steel bumpers

• Alloy wheels styled after the original Jensen wheels

• Numerous additional mechanical and cosmetic improvements accumulated over many years

The car starts easily, runs strongly and presents as a well-maintained and regularly improved classic grand tourer rather than a recently restored showpiece.

Condition

This Interceptor is not a concours car and is honestly described as such. It presents very well, attracts attention wherever it goes and can be enjoyed immediately, but there are minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with a restored and used classic car.

The underside, suspension components, engine bay and interior all reflect the extensive work carried out during long-term ownership.

Documentation

Included with the car are:

• Factory build card

• Factory invoice

• Factory inspection documentation

• Warranty paperwork

• Historical registration records

• Ownership history

• Restoration records and supporting documentation

• Original jack and tool kit

Summary

A rare opportunity to acquire an early matching-numbers Jensen Interceptor Mk I with outstanding documentation, long-term enthusiast ownership and extensive mechanical restoration already completed.

This is an Interceptor intended to be driven and enjoyed, offering the character of the early Series I cars together with significant investment in its mechanical condition.
