1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL W113

With the passage of time, much of the cars early history has unfortunately been mislaid, but what we do know is that it started life in 1968 and in January 1977 it came into the ownership of Donald Wilson of Weybridge. From that point Mr Wilson and subsequent owners have retained a maintenance history. Three more owners enjoyed the car, including one titled lady, before Brian Lucas of Fleet in Hampshire acquired it in late 1981. Mr Lucas initiated a DVLA ownership history enquiry in 1982 and the results of this can be found in the accompanying file. During his ownership the car made a number of visits to Calloway's Mercedes garage in Farnham. In March 1985 John Pettifor, also of Fleet, bought the car, and it remained a much-loved part of the Pettifor family for almost 40 years, being passed on to John’s wife Janet in 2009, since when it has covered only a nominal mileage, being looked after latterly by the respected Mercedes-Benz specialists Silchester Garage. Along with a Haynes manual and a copy of the Mercedes-Benz promotional book “A History of Passion”, the file contains service invoices and MoT certificates as well as a charming photo of Mr & Mrs Pettifor in the car taking part in a classic car parade.
