Ford Mustang Hardtop 289 V8 | 1965

Highlights:

– 4.7-litre 289 V8 engine, petrol, automatic transmission

– Black paintwork with black interior

– Extensive list of recent mechanical work

– Cobra-style wheels

The seller offers for sale this 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop 289 V8, powered by a 4.7-litre 289 cubic inch V8 petrol engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in black with a black interior, chrome trim and a wood-rimmed steering wheel, this Mustang has a purposeful and elegant presence. The classic hardtop coupé silhouette with its long bonnet and short rear deck is set off by a set of Cobra-style wheels, giving the car a subtle sporting edge.

The seller has carried out a comprehensive list of work on the car. The automatic transmission has been overhauled, with new transmission oil cooler lines and a new transmission oil pan. At the rear, the rear panel has been replaced, the rear axle wheel bearings have been renewed, the axle shafts have been resealed, the axle breather hose has been replaced and a heat shield has been fitted to the rear brake hose. The leaf spring shackles have been replaced and anti-squeak pads fitted. In the engine bay, new oil pressure and temperature senders, a new starter relay, a new fuel pump with hoses and a glass filter and a new fan shroud have been installed, a manual choke cable has been added, and the carburettor and ignition have been adjusted. New reversing lights and exhaust tips have also been fitted, while the grille and bonnet have been secured and aligned.

When Ford unveiled the Mustang in April 1964, it created an entirely new category of car: the pony car. With its sporty proportions, affordable price and an almost endless list of options, the Mustang was an instant sensation. Ford sold more than 400000 cars in the first year alone, and the one millionth Mustang left the line in early 1966. The Mustang became a cultural icon of the 1960s, appearing in films, music and advertising, and it remains one of the most recognisable cars in the world.

The 289 cubic inch small-block V8 is the classic choice for the early Mustang, offering a smooth and torquey character with that unmistakable V8 rumble. Combined with the automatic transmission, it makes for relaxed and effortless cruising, ideal for enjoying the car on long summer drives. Early Mustangs are among the most popular American classics in Europe, prized for their timeless design, their straightforward mechanics and the good availability of parts. This black hardtop, with its recent mechanical attention, offers a very attractive way to experience genuine 1960s American motoring.
