1967 Ford Mustang Coupe – 289 V8 – 3-Speed Manual – Running & Driving – UK Registered
£16, 500
Offered for sale is my 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe, fitted with the desirable 289 V8 engine and 3-speed manual transmission.
Originally from New Jersey, USA, the Mustang was imported to the UK and is now fully UK registered with a UK V5.
The car showed approximately 33, 000 miles on the clock when I purchased it.
This Mustang has been a rewarding project that I have brought a long way since purchasing it. When I acquired the car, it was unregistered in the UK, a non-runner and had reportedly spent around 30 years stored in a barn.
Since then, I have successfully obtained the UK V5, recommissioned the vehicle and carried out a considerable amount of mechanical work to return it to running and driving condition.
Work completed includes:
• UK V5 registration obtained
• LEED front disc brake conversion
• New fuel tank
• New fuel pump
• New fuel sender unit
• New fuel lines
• New brake lines
• New Holley carburettor
• New solenoid
• New spark plugs
• New ignition leads
• New ignition coil
• New battery
• New oil pan
• Fresh oil service
• New electric cooling fan fitted
• New headlights
• New Centre Line alloy wheels fitted – professionally adapted to suit the vehicle
• New radiator
• New thermostat & housing
Mechanically, the Mustang starts, runs and drives well and idles fine. The 289 V8 is running on all cylinders, starts easily and sounds strong.
The car is currently running without an exhaust system fitted, so it is extremely loud during operation. Because of this, it is difficult to accurately assess the finer aspects of the engine tune. It idles fine as it stands, but I would expect the new owner to carry out a final tune once an exhaust system has been fitted.
The car retains its 3-speed manual transmission and starts, drives and stops under its own power. It has come a long way from the non-running car I originally purchased.
The car does require some further structural/ bodywork attention. Both the driver and passenger side floor areas require attention, along with the driver's side frame rail. New replacement floor panels and new seat risers are included with the car ready for the next owner to fit.
A considerable amount of recommissioning work has already been completed, but please bear in mind that this is a nearly 60-year-old classic and an ongoing project rather than a fully restored or finished car. There will naturally be areas that could be improved or attended to depending on how far the next owner wishes to take it.
The Mustang presents as an honest classic with loads of character and period charm. It has not been restored and still wears its age and patina proudly. For me, this is a big part of the appeal of the car rather than something I've tried to hide or cover up.
It would make a great basis for somebody wanting to continue improving it while retaining the patina, or alternatively take it further and carry out a full restoration.
The hard work of getting the car UK registered, recommissioned, running and driving has already been done, leaving plenty of scope for the next owner to take it in whichever direction they choose.
£16, 995 – sensible offers may be considered.
I'm happy to listen to sensible offers, but I'm not desperate to sell and won't entertain unrealistic offers.
PX may also be considered, particularly for a Porsche Covin or another interesting classic. Cash either way can be discussed depending on the vehicle.
Viewing is welcome and strongly encouraged. This is an older, unrestored classic and I would much rather a prospective buyer comes to see the Mustang in person, hears it running and satisfies themselves with its condition before purchasing.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description. I'm happy to answer any genuine questions about the car or provide further photographs or videos where required.
A great opportunity to own a 1967 V8 Mustang Coupe that's originally from New Jersey, now UK registered, running and driving, with a substantial amount of recommissioning work already completed.
Originally discovered as a non-running, unregistered barn find that had reportedly been stored for around 30 years, this Mustang has since been brought back to life through a significant programme of recommissioning work.
The car now benefits from a UK V5 registration and has been returned to running and driving condition, with substantial investment made in the fuel, ignition, braking and cooling systems. While further work remains to take the car to the next level, much of the difficult and expensive recommissioning work has already been completed.
An honest and increasingly rare 1967 Mustang Coupe with the desirable 289 V8, offering an excellent opportunity for an enthusiast looking for a genuine American classic with plenty of potential.
