Originally exported to the United States as one of 37 cars, the car was re-imported to England in 2017, where it underwent a full restoration including a fresh coat of paint. Since then it has remained with the same owner and has covered just over 1, 000 miles — a remarkably low figure for a car this well sorted.

That low mileage is backed by a decade of meticulous care from a Classic Car Specialist, with the most recent service completed this month. Beyond routine maintenance, the car has benefited from a number of thoughtful upgrades: it's been converted to negative earth and fitted with electronic ignition, giving it a smoother-running engine and improved fuel economy over the standard setup. Other recent work includes a new battery, water pump, slave cylinder, and tonneau cover.

Behind the wheel, you're greeted by a classic wood-rimmed steering wheel, period-correct gauges, and that low-slung roadster seating position that puts you right in the action. Under the bonnet, the spirited B-series engine pairs with a four-speed manual gearbox for the kind of direct, engaging drive that modern cars simply can't replicate.

Why I Bought It

I'd always wanted an MG-A — there's something about that shape, the long bonnet and curved wings, that just gets it right in a way few cars from the era manage. When I found this one, freshly returned from the US and restored, the decision was easy. It had the right colour, the right history, and it had clearly been looked after rather than just driven and forgotten.

What Makes It Stand Out

It's not a garage queen that's never turned a wheel, but it's not been thrashed either. A decade of specialist maintenance and just over 1, 000 miles since restoration means it drives the way an MG-A should — tight, responsive, no rattles or excuses. The negative earth and electronic ignition conversions make it genuinely easier to live with day to day, without taking anything away from the character of the original.

My Favourite Thing

Honestly, it's the drive itself — that low-slung seating position, the directness of the steering, the noise from the B-series engine. You feel every corner. It's a reminder of what driving used to be before everything got insulated and automated, and that's exactly why I bought it in the first place.
