Mk II Mini Production
Mk II mini’s were only manufactured between September 1967 and 1970 after which the MK III with wind down windows and interior door hinges was launched. MK I mini’s were manufactured from 1959 to 1966. The MK II differs in square back lights and the remote change only previously fitted to MK I Cooper’s. A larger rear window, horn now on the indicator stalk, ignition on the dashboard key.

The vehicle was donated to me on 01/ 05/ 2004 and has been in current ownership 22 years. Previously it had been dry stored for many years, and was in poor condition with rust in many areas.
Initially the car was built in Oxford as a Mk II 850cc saloon. I decided to restore the vehicle to a specification that was to my requirements, and to keep up with modern traffic, hence it has been modified but kept to look original. Current mileage is approx. 74K. I use the car for dry weather driving around Shropshire and Wales. I tend to do only 500-1000 miles per year.
The car was professionally restored in 2004 both body shell and mechanical. Work was undertaken by Derek’s Mini’s in Walsall.[DMC]
Body Work:
New sills, complete floor pan & boot
New front outer wings and front Panel, door skins
Complete restoration of the body, wings, doors, bonnet and tailgate
Replacement of the bonnet and boot with MK II panels
The main shell is original 1960’s
Bare metal respray to Almond Green, old English white roof.
Mechanicals:
Complete engine rebuild with 1300 Metro engine
Gear box strip and refurbish including synchromesh on 1st gear.
Twin 1. 25 SU carbs
Minilite wheels with Yokohama tyres, the tyres have tread but are now quite old. Spare is new/ unused.
Adjustable dry cone suspension with Spax high/ low shock absorbers
New heater pipes and radiator
New wiring system
New exhaust system end to end, 3 branch exhaust
Oil cooler
Brake servo [drum brakes have been retained all round]
Twin fuel tanks
Cobra classic interior trim from Newton Commercials.
Alternator fitted to replace the field coil and distributor.
Motolota wooden steering wheel
I’m now 71 and have enjoyed this car for a long time.
The car is currently insured for around £250 per year fully comprehensive with mileage limited to under 2000 per annum. I have pictures of the car as purchased if needed.
The avert includes an number of receipts including the V5 details.
The brightwork, interior trim and paint finish are all very good.
The engine bay is clean and tidy, the car runs well and is very reliable.
Exterior paint has some ageing but is still very presentable. There are some minor marks and scuffs but cosmetic.
I’ve valued the car based on the Mk2 non-cooper but modified spec, overall condition of the car taking into account the exterior paint is not new. Performance is Cooper S standard without the price tag.
Purchased for restoration 2004, following sale of a vintage sport car I owned for 27 years. The Mk2 is quite rare and is very enjoyable to drive. It's been uprated to perform on modern roads.
I'm happy to provide any further specific pictures as required.
