The seller offers for sale this 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback C-Code, powered by a 4.7-litre 289 V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. The C in the VIN confirms that this Mustang left the factory as a genuine V8 car, and the San Jose plant code shows it was built in California. The body is finished in metallic grey with contrasting dark racing stripes over the bonnet, roof and boot lid; the stripes are applied as a decal and can be removed if the next owner prefers a cleaner look. The car has been repainted in Europe.
The specification includes power steering and power-assisted disc brakes, a set of American Racing wheels and a dual exhaust system with headers running from front to rear, which gives the 289 its deep V8 voice. The black interior has been refreshed, with many parts renewed, and the previous owner invested considerably in preparing the car. It comes with the documentation required for registration within Europe.
Few cars have made a bigger impact than the Ford Mustang. Launched in April 1964, it created the pony car segment almost single-handedly, and by 1966 Ford was selling more than 600,000 Mustangs a year. The fastback joined the line-up for the 1965 model year and quickly became the enthusiast’s choice. It was the basis for Carroll Shelby’s GT350, and it remained the rarest of the three body styles, well behind the hardtop and the open-top version, which makes a genuine V8 fastback all the more desirable today.
The design is pure sixties Americana: the long bonnet and short rear deck, the sweeping roofline flowing down to the tail, the louvred rear quarter vents and the triple-lens taillights. With the 289 V8 up front and an automatic gearbox, this Mustang offers the relaxed, torquey driving experience that made the model a legend, whether cruising on the open road or arriving at a classic car event.
